Introduction
Ever spotted “65% Rayon” on a clothing label and wondered what it really means? You’re not alone — I did too. Here’s a simple guide that explains what rayon is, how it feels, why it’s often blended with other materials, and why I personally love choosing it for the shop!
So.. What Is Rayon?
Rayon is a soft, breathable fabric made from wood pulp (yes—trees!). It’s not totally natural like cotton, but it’s not synthetic like polyester either. It’s kind of in-between—made from natural materials, but processed to create something super lightweight and flowy.
It was actually invented as a more affordable version of silk, which explains why it feels smooth and drapes beautifully.
Why 65%?
When a tag says “65% Rayon,” it means the fabric is a blend—so 65% of it is rayon, and the other 35% is usually something like polyester, cotton, or spandex. That little mix helps the fabric last longer, wrinkle less, or stretch a bit depending on what it’s blended with.
It’s one of my favourite blends to wear because it feels luxe but still holds up for everyday life.
Why I Look for Rayon in the Shop
Rayon is great for:
- Breezy tops and dresses
- Soft layering pieces
- Pieces that feel more expensive than they are
It’s also one of those fabrics that just feels good—and if I wouldn’t wear it myself, I don’t stock it.
Is Rayon Expensive?
Not really—and that’s what’s cool about it. It looks and feels more premium than it costs. In the boutique world, it’s a go-to for making clothes that feel special without the high-end price tag.
When I’m choosing pieces for the shop, I look for that sweet spot: comfortable, flattering, affordable—and rayon often hits all three.
TL;DR (Too Long; Didn’t Read 😉)
- Rayon = silky, breathable, and made from plants
- 65% rayon means it’s a blend (for better durability)
- It feels luxe, but isn’t expensive
- I love it—and now you know why it’s in the shop 💜
